How To Clean Your Glasses?

When you think about it, your glasses are constantly exposed to the world. They sit atop your nose, collecting dust and debris from the air around you. They come into contact with your skin, which can leave behind oils and sweat. And of course, they’re constantly being exposed to sunlight, which can cause them to fade over time. All of this exposure makes eyeglasses susceptible to becoming dirty and less clear than they once were.

That’s why knowing how to clean your glasses safely and hygienically is important, and it isn’t as daunting a task as it may seem. In just a few simple steps, you can have your glasses looking and feeling like new again. In this blog post, we'll explain how to clean your glasses perfectly. So whether your lenses are dirty from daily wear or just need a little extra TLC, read on for some tips that will help you out.

HOW TO CLEAN GLASSES (WHAT NOT TO DO):

Your eyeglasses are an important part of your everyday life. They help you see clearly and protect your eyes from the sun and other environmental hazards. However, if they’re not properly cared for, they can become dirty and even scratched, making it difficult to see through them. Before we reveal how to clean glasses, here’s some things to avoid:

  • Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials — For example, paper towels, tissues, and acetone. These can damage the delicate lenses and leave them more susceptible to scratches.
  • Avoid using hot water (or saliva!) — The heat can warp the lenses and cause them to lose their shape, while saliva is full of germs that can cause bacteria to grow on your lenses. Instead, use lukewarm filtered water.
  • Don’t use your shirt sleeve — Tempting as it may be, the fabric can snag on the lenses and cause scratches.

HOW TO CLEAN READING GLASSES PROPERLY

Your cleaning routine doesn’t need to be overly complicated. In fact, with the right tools, it shouldn’t take any longer than 20 seconds. To get your glasses sparkling clean, you’ll need a soft cloth (ideally a microfibre cloth) and some lens cleaning solution:

  1. 1. Start by washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water, so you don’t transfer any oil, dirt or bacteria to your glasses.
  2.
  3. 2. Run warm water over your glasses to get rid of any surface dust, and wipe them down with the microfibre cloth.
  4.
  5. 3. Spray the solution on the lenses and gently wipe it away. Avoid rubbing the cloth too vigorously, as this can damage the coating on the glasses.
  6.
  7. 4. Next, use a dry part of the cloth to buff the lenses until they are streak-free.
  8.
  9. 5. Don’t forget the frame! Moisten a towelette with rubbing alcohol to clean the nose pads and ear clips.

HOW TO KEEP YOUR GLASSES CLEAN

You’ve wiped and buffed your glasses to perfection, and you want to keep them that way. Here’s how to keep your glasses clean:

  • Store carefully — If you don’t already have a hinged, hardshell glasses case, now’s the time to invest. A soft pocket-style case is better than nothing, but the hard cases are built to withstand knocks and bumps when you’re on the move.
  • Handle with care — The easiest way to keep your glasses scratch and smudge-free is to handle them with extreme care. When you take them off, always place them folded with the lenses facing upwards.
