What happens in an eye test?

During your eye test, your optometrist will ask about your vision, overall health and lifestyle. Bring any eyewear you are currently using so this can be checked during your eye exam. At 1001 Optometry, we care about the details! This is where your personalised care begins! It’s easy to book an eye test appointment with us online.

An eye examination comprises three key components:

  • Vision tests to examine your eyes’ vision and how well your eyes are working
  • Tests to comprehensively check your eye health
  • Tests to determine whether glasses, contact lenses or any further advice or management is needed to ensure your vision and eye health are maintained and protected

The following activities may be performed during your eye exam, with your optometrist explaining each one as you go along:

  • Vision testing on a letter chart to determine if you have any eyesight problems such as shortsightedness, longsightedness, astigmatism and reading vision issues. For kids that can’t read their letters yet, don’t worry! We have other ways of accurately checking the vision of children too!
  • Getting a comprehensive eye health test using up-to-date instruments and advanced imaging technology to thoroughly check the health of the front and back of your eyes.
  • A comprehensive eye test with one of our optometrists checks for eye health problems and eye diseases, including dry eye, cataracts, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
  • We bulk-bill Medicare for our eye tests, and we have state of the art advanced imaging technology to investigate further if additional testing is needed
