About Edward Lee

Edward Lee is an optometrist and Retail & Optometry Director at 1001 Optometry, overseeing clinical standards, optometry operations, product strategy and innovation across the group. His work focuses on children’s myopia management, evidence-based eye care and improving access to professional eye health services across Australia.

"Short-sightedness isn't just blurry vision. It's missed catches, missed cues, missed moments in a kid's day. The earlier we screen, the more options that child has for the rest of their life. Closing that gap is what drives my work, and why we built Magnif-eye."

Clinical and Professional Focus

  • Children's Myopia Management

Children's myopia management is one of Edward's primary areas of professional focus. As the prevalence of myopia continues to increase globally, he is committed to helping Australian families access evidence-based interventions that can slow myopia progression and support long-term eye health. Through 1001 Optometry's national myopia program, he works to improve access to comprehensive myopia management services, including orthokeratology, spectacle lens therapies and low-dose atropine.

  • Evidence-based eye care

Edward is passionate about helping patients and families navigate the growing number of eye care products, treatments and online health information available today. Through his leadership at 1001 Optometry, he supports optometrists in staying up to date with emerging research and treatment developments, helping patients receive care that is both scientifically supported and appropriate for their individual needs.

  • Optical Technology and Lens Innovation

Edward works closely with leading optical manufacturers and industry partners to assess emerging technologies in myopia management and vision care. His focus includes evaluating new spectacle lens designs, contact lens technologies and treatment innovations before they are implemented across the 1001 Optometry network. By bridging clinical practice with industry innovation, he helps ensure optometrists have access to evidence-based solutions that can improve patient outcomes while maintaining high standards of care.

  • AI Screening and Magnif-Eye

Edward is the strategic lead behind Magnif-Eye, an AI-powered childhood myopia screening platform developed to increase public awareness of myopia and encourage earlier professional eye examinations. The initiative was created in response to a recurring challenge in clinical practice: many children are not identified as myopic until years after the earliest signs become visible.

  • Patient Education and Access to Professional Eye Care

Edward believes that one of the most important responsibilities of an optometrist is helping patients understand and take ownership of their eye health. While early detection and treatment are essential, he is equally passionate about ensuring patients have the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions about their vision and long-term eye care. Through practitioner education, public awareness initiatives and the expansion of accessible eye care services, he works to make high-quality eye health information and professional care more accessible to Australian communities.
